Why Aegis Digital Exists

North African women are increasingly visible online β€” learning, working, creating, connecting. Yet this visibility comes with risks that are too often ignored: cyberbullying, image-based abuse, religious discrimination, digital surveillance, and harassment rooted in misogyny and cultural pressure.

Aegis Digital exists to change that. We provide practical safety tools, legal knowledge, and a community of support β€” so women from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt can thrive online without fear.

EU Laws & Protections Against Digital Exploitation

The European Union has some of the strongest digital protections in the world. If you live in the EU, or if platforms operating in the EU host content targeting you, these laws are on your side β€” including specific protections for religious identity.

DSA 2022

Digital Services Act (DSA)

Requires major platforms β€” Meta, Google, TikTok, X β€” to remove illegal content including hate speech and non-consensual intimate images quickly, and to provide users with clear reporting tools. Platforms that fail to comply face fines of up to 6% of global revenue.

Applies to: All EU residents using covered platforms
Read the DSA β†’
GDPR 2018

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Gives you the right to know what data platforms hold about you, the right to have it erased ("right to be forgotten"), and the right to object to its use. Sharing or processing your personal data without consent is a criminal offence in the EU.

Applies to: Anyone whose data is processed by EU-based entities

EU Charter Β· Art. 10

Freedom of Religion & Protection from Discrimination

Article 10 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights guarantees freedom of religion and protects against discrimination based on religion or belief. Online hate directed at Muslim women β€” including harassment targeting the hijab or Islamic practice β€” constitutes a violation reportable to national equality bodies.

Applies to: All persons within EU member states
EU Charter of Rights β†’
EU Directive 2011/93

Protection Against Online Sexual Exploitation

This directive criminalises the production, distribution, and possession of non-consensual intimate images across all EU member states. Perpetrators who share images online without the victim's consent β€” often called "revenge porn" β€” must be prosecuted under national law.

Applies to: All EU member states β€” mandatory criminalisation
Read the Directive β†’
EU Code of Conduct 2016

EU Code of Conduct on Hate Speech

Signed by Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok, and others, this binding commitment requires platforms to review and act on hate speech reports β€” including Islamophobic and racially motivated content targeting North African women β€” within 24 hours.

Applies to: All major social media platforms operating in the EU
Code of Conduct β†’
Morocco Β· Law 103-13

Morocco's Law Against Violence Towards Women

Enacted in 2018, this law criminalises digital harassment, cyber-stalking, and online threats directed at women. Victims can report to the Parquet (public prosecutor) directly. The law also covers harassment carried out via messaging apps and social media platforms.

Applies to: All persons within Moroccan jurisdiction

🚨 How to Report Digital Abuse in 3 Steps

01

Document Everything
Screenshot all messages, posts, and profiles. Note dates and times. Save links before they are deleted. Do not respond to the abuser.

02

Report on the Platform
Use the platform's built-in reporting tools. Under the EU DSA, covered platforms must act on illegal content within 24 hours.

03

Escalate to Authorities
In the EU, contact your national data protection authority. In Morocco, contact the CNDP or file a police report under Law 103-13. We can help β€” contact us.
